Mt Kilimanjiro
Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa at 5895 m and made up of three dormant volcanoes located entirely within Tanzania but close to the border of Kenya.
There are six different trekking routes to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro and the mountain attracts around 25 000 climbers every year.
It was first summated in 1889, German geographer Hans Meyer and Austrian mountain climber Ludwig Purtscheller.
Any expedition on the mountain is an experience to remember, largely due to the changing flora and fauna found throughout the route. It is said that Mt Kilimanjaro contains an example of nearly every ecosystem on earth – snowfields, deserts, alpine moorland, glacier, savannah, and tropical jungle.
The closest city to the mountain in Moshi and situated about 30km from the summit. This is where most of the expeditions start from.
